Treatments

All Ages

At Wagner Orthodontics, we proudly offer treatment at every stage of life! The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children visit an orthodontist around age seven to diagnose and correct tooth and jaw problems early.

For teens, braces are the most common solution as they come in various styles, materials, and colors, making treatment more comfortable and stylish! Orthodontic treatment is also popular among adults, with one in five orthodontic patients over age 21, as many adults seek to improve their health and appearance.

Phase One

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends for the first orthodontic evaluation to be at age 7, as early assessment allows for the timely detection of developmental issues and provides the opportunity to begin Phase I orthodontic treatment. Early treatment, also known as Phase One, typically begins around age eight or nine and aims to address key issues such as improper jaw growth and bite problems, like underbite. By guiding jaw development and creating space for permanent teeth, Phase I treatment reduces the risk of more serious complications later in life, including the need for tooth extractions. Starting treatment early allows for significant improvements in oral health and the proper alignment of teeth, making future orthodontic treatment, known as Phase Two, more straightforward when it begins around age 11 or older.

Custom Braces

Traditional Metal

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before! Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.

Ceramic (Clear)

Ceramic braces are made of transparent materials and are less visible. For this reason, they are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as they are larger and more brittle. Therefore, Ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

Lightforce

LightForce braces are designed for maximum comfort and efficiency. These braces use 3D-printed brackets customized to fit your teeth perfectly, ensuring precise and effective tooth movement. Made from a translucent ceramic material, LightForce braces are less noticeable than traditional metal braces, offering a more discreet treatment option. Plus, you can still add colored elastics to personalize your smile!

Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to prevent regression of your treatment and maintain your new, beautifully aligned smile.

Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical orthodontics, also known as orthognathic surgery, is a type of orthodontic treatment used to correct severe cases that include bad bites, jaw bone abnormalities, and malocclusion. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is one of the nine recognized dental specialties and focuses on treating complex craniofacial cases that involve the mouth, jaw, face, and skull. If you need surgical orthodontics, Dr. Wagner will work with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to ensure you receive the best care possible!

Appliances

Palatal Expander

The palatal expander expands your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. Dr. Wagner will instruct you on when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to solidify the expansion and to prevent regression.

TADs

Temporary anchorage devices, or TADs, are small titanium anchors used in certain orthodontic cases to help achieve quicker tooth movement more efficiently and comfortably. TADs may be used in addition to braces or as an alternative to headgear.

Custom Mouthguards

Protect your smile with custom mouthguards designed specifically for your teeth! Crafted from high-quality materials, they effectively absorb impact, reducing the risk of dental injuries. With a custom mouthguard, you can confidently enjoy your favorite activities while keeping your smile safe and secure.

Splints

Splints offer an effective solution for managing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and other jaw-related issues. This custom-made appliance provides optimal support and comfort, alleviating pain and reducing stress on your jaw muscles. By wearing a splint, you can experience significant relief from symptoms like jaw pain, headaches, and teeth grinding, improving your overall oral health and quality of life.
